virginia irene

Welcome and thanks for stopping by! I am named after two different loving and influential women in my family, Virginia and Irene, women who I want to keep alive through my pursuit of architecture and art. I live here in my birthplace of Nashville, Tennessee, with my husband and two daughters. Growing up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, I was heavily influenced by the backdrop of the Appalachian mountains, particularly stretching from the Blue Ridge of Virginia down even to the Gulf coast of Florida. Always itching to capture light and form, my first love was art but was later shaped by formal study of architecture. Though I practice architecture professionally, I find the deepest joy in the moments when light, material, texture, and sense of place converge. For me, there is always something to learn in studying an object, a structure, or a landscape through the means of making art. I am passionate about creating a meaningful connection with place - or as one of my favorite professors, Peter Waldman at UVA would say, “where the sky meets the ground.”
